The Romeo Lemay Contest

Romeo Lemay

A long-time resident of Safety Harbor, Florida and original member of the Safety Harbor Writers & Poets, Romeo Lemay wrote numerous short stories about his upbringing in the French-speaking Ottowa Valley during the Great Depression, many of which are found in his self-published two-volume collection, Facts, Fiction, Fantasies, and Foolishness. Romeo had been encouraged by family and friends to write down his stories, and fortunately, he did, allowing his humor and wit to live on. After his death in 2013, Romeo's son Tim established a writing contest in his father's name. With the decision to produce Odet, the contest and journal were merged in 2016. Now, the annual Romeo Lemay Prize awards $600 in cash prizes to the top submissions in prose and poetry, along with automatic publication in the next volume.
